Homemade Wind Turbine – POC
December 30th, 2009 Posted in Solar Video
Here is a proof of concept that I did for a Wind Turbine and Solar charging system connected to a charge controller system. The solar panel is simply two small 5w panels wired in parallel to get 10w of power. The wind turbine is a custom built housing with a small PMA motor connected to 24in blades. The turbine puts out about 100 150 watts on average; however I will likely need to use some type of 2:1 gear setup with more blades to get more efficiency from the motor. ... With regards to a wind turbine, a PMA means “Permanent Magnet Alternator”.

Currently I have to use two multimeters (volts * amps = watts). I recently got two gauges that I plan to wire into the system . I will post a new video that actually shows some real numbers and performance of the system As for the hight of the tower, I am trying to avoid using guy-wires on my turbine. However I may have to reconsider as a simple move of 5 more feet seemed to have a very good effect on the turbine. Thanks for the comments!

great vid.
just wondering. how do you calculate the watts the turbine in producing??
thanks.

It’s small but a GREAT start! Very creative. Can you stick that tower higher?

I think you have a great little system .I just got into alt energy last year.I think its an awesome hobby.check out my videos if you get a chance.keep us updated on your system .thanks
