Freely rotating solar array

December 19th, 2009 Posted in Solar Video

A freely rotating 200W solar panel array that I built. It has a 58 degree tilt, perfect for the week of Burning Man and not bad on average for the year. For BM I plan to have it rotated manually to face the sun but when I get it back home I may try to add a tracker or at least a motor. ... solar panel frame diy

Great DIY solar panel. I made my solar panel with 5″ monocrystalline solar cells from Solar-Deals(.)com. If you’re looking for solar cells, I’d recommend them.

That would be cool, but for the week of Burning Man it’s enough to just go rotate it every few hours. See my other video on the array for how I can rotate it and lock it in place.
If it was going to be in my backyard, I’d either lock it in one position or put on a tracker!

Hi, please check out dripper trackers (from me) on utube. They are low tech trackers that could turn your equipment.
Dripper trackers are only a few months old. People laugh at them and call them Rube Goldberg devices but thats because they have not tried them yet. I recommend a 2 bucket dripper tracker. If you can make the clock based one accuracy and repeatability would be very good.
